Alison’s Story

In today’s interview, we get to know Alison and discover how Seven helps her stay motivated to work out every day! Can you match her streak? 🔥

Why did you choose Seven?
I had been looking for something similar for a while, since first reading about the power of 7-minute workouts in the New York Times. I chose it because I found it easy to use and I liked receiving stickers and rewards. I am extremely Type A 😊

Where is your favourite place to work out?
At home on my yoga mat. My 3-year-old sometimes joins me!

How do you find the time to work out as a busy parent?
I often end up doing the workouts quite late in the evening, as the day frequently gets away from me. However, I’ve found other great times to work out with a young child are during his bath time (bringing the mat right into the bathroom), during gaps between work meetings, or incorporating the workout into a play session with my son!

How often do you use Seven?
I use Seven every single day, and my best streak so far has been 290 days. The idea of building streaks was great for building and maintaining a habit that I’ve really come to appreciate and identify with.

No matter how tired I am or how full the day’s been, 99% of the time I make it to my mat – even just for a round of push-ups and some stretching.

COVID also helped with this, as this daily workout was a point of stability in an otherwise uncertain situation.

How do you stay motivated to work out?
I stay motivated to work out because 7 minutes is a sort of magical number – I can never justify not finding 7 minutes even if I find them at 11:53 pm.

I also stay motivated because I know my future self will thank me for building healthy habits, and that I am modelling this habit for my son.

What is your favourite part of Seven?
I really like the Live group workouts every hour on the hour. It is encouraging to know [other users] are there.

I also really like that I can add other workouts done outside of the app, so that my daily bike commute counts towards my overall statistics. However, I still try to always do a 7-minute workout no matter what other exercise I’ve done that day.

Overall, the fact that the app tracks every minute spent working out helps me feel like my efforts are being rewarded!

Anything else you’d like to share?
Just my sincere thanks to the team who keep Seven up and running and fun to use, and to the other users who motivate me by being there.
